What Happens Inside a Manufactured Home Factory

You might already be aware that offsite homebuilding is A Smarter Way to Build®. Well, it’s true! Manufactured and modular homes are fast, affordable and attractive. But how do these innovative homes come to be? Skilled craftspeople, of course! Thanks to our amazing teams of builders across the country, you can find a gorgeous prefab home near you with ease and trust.

Let’s take a peek into what goes on inside one of the factories where these fast, affordable and attractive homes are built! Come with us to Sugarcreek, OH and feast your eyes on the nuts and bolts of building a modern manufactured home!

 1. We’re Goin’ Down, Down Baby!

The cabinets are constructed upstairs and then transported down a ramp for installation inside the house.

2. Know the Drill

During the installation and construction of plumbing systems in manufactured homes, the HUD Code provides the necessary guidelines to ensure proper implementation. Check out this real-time plumbing!

3. Keeping You Cozy

Installation of insulation occurs while wall sections are on the jig to ensure a secure fit. Want to learn more about insulation in our energy efficient homes? Click here

4. A Fine Line Between Fast & Faster

The Gang Nailer is a game-changer for our workers, enabling them to work with greater efficiency and precision when constructing walls. Thanks to its capability to attach drywall to the wall framing quickly, we can now build more durable walls in less time than ever before.

5. To Top it Off…

Roof sections are constructed in a specific area and then lifted onto the top of the building using a crane or hoist. This ensures that the roof is properly installed and will provide the necessary protection for the home.

6. Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

Roofers have the advantage of working indoors, away from harsh weather conditions and other outdoor hazards. Similarly, in offsite construction, working in a protected indoor environment is one of the reasons why it is often faster and more efficient than traditional site-built homebuilding.

Building Trees for a Better Tomorrow

Champion® Homes has always been a company that’s dedicated to creating high-quality homes, but we’ve never stopped at just the physical structure. We’re passionate about being environmentally friendly, which is why we partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant a tree for every tree we use in our building process. And we’re proud to say that we exceeded our target of 600,000 trees planted!

Since the inception of our partnership, we’ve completed 23 projects and restored 1,559 acres of land. But it’s not just the land that we’re helping – we’ve avoided runoff of over 51 million gallons of water, removed 1,916 tons of air pollutants, and sequestered 491,105 metric tons of CO2. These are impressive numbers, but what we’re most proud of is the fact that we’re making a real difference in the environment.

Our commitment to environmental sustainability doesn’t stop there. We’ve implemented a variety of environmentally-friendly practices in our operations, from using recycled materials to reducing our energy consumption. We believe that every little bit counts when it comes to protecting the planet, and we’re doing our part to make a difference.

At Champion Homes, we’re not just building homes – we’re building a better future. We’re proud of our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the environment.

California Accessory Dwelling Units: What Are They & How to Get One

Depending on where you live, you may or may not be acquainted with the term “ADU” popping up more and more in conversation. In California, there’s seems to be a gold rush for ADUs, or Accessory Dwelling Units. If you live in the area and would like to get one of your own, keep reading! In this blog, we’ll talk about what these trendy builds are, who they’re for and how you can get one in Cali.

What is an ADU?

An ADU, short for Accessory Dwelling Unit, is a small home that can be built on the same lot alongside another, larger single-family home. Other names for an ADU include backyard house, guest house, personal Bread & Breakfast house, casita and In-Law Suite. With all these names, you’ve probably guessed that these units have an extremely wide range of usage, and you would be right! ADUs can be used as a long-term or short-term rental unit, separate office or studio space, a decked out at-home gym, a kids playroom, a comfortable option for an aging parent or in-law, and SO much more. What’s important to remember is regardless of how it’s used, legally an ADU is part of the same property as the main home. Here at Champion® Homes, we take pride in building high-quality ADUs with our innovative offsite building process.

Who Are ADUs For?

It’s no secret that ADUs are increasingly popular because they are so versatile. First things first: where are you located? Champion builds ADUs for homeowners in the state of California. Next, you’ll want to make sure your lot is eligible for ADU construction under local zoning laws. Laws vary by location, so check with your local municipality to access the zoning code that’s applicable to your home.

After that, you’ll also want to make sure someone is actually occupying the main home. It might seem like a no-brainer, but laws are serious about the fact that you can’t live in an ADU unless someone is currently living in the primary dwelling.

Then, you’ll want to make sure your lot size will work for what you’re planning to build. Permissions on this can also vary from area to area, so you’ll want to see if the lot size you plan to build on will work for what you plan to place. One of the many benefits of purchasing a Champion-built ADU is many of our models are perfect for narrow lots, giving you more bang for your buck. How Do I Get an ADU?

So, you’ve learned more and you’re ready to get into the ADU world, huh? With our offsite construction methods, Champion Homes is likely your best choice for finding a well-designed, durable and attainable accessory dwelling unit. Our ADU units can be built and installed rather quickly!

Looking to learn more about ADUs? Visit the landing page for more information and a contact form.

What is a CrossMod™ Home?

The affordable housing shortage has increased demand and driven up home prices and rental rates. Manufactured homes provide a solution as they cost less and are quicker to build than on-site homes. A new category of manufactured homes, called Crossover Modern Homes (CrossMod), offers a high-end, energy-efficient yet affordable factory-built housing alternative.

Champion®-designed CrossMod homes combine the best of on-site and off-site built housing, complying with state and local building standards. They offer amenities typically found in site-built homes, such as garages, carports, pitched roofs, and energy-efficient features.

CrossMod homes (like the one pictured above) have gained popularity in recent years due to the many advantages they offer over conventional manufactured homes.

Here are some additional benefits of CrossMod homes:

  • Increased property value: Because CrossMod homes are classified as real property and have many features similar to traditional site-built homes, they are expected to appreciate in value at a similar rate. This makes them a wise investment for those looking to build equity over time.
  • Financing: CrossMods are available for mortgage loan financing with favorable interest rates and 30-year terms through programs like Fannie Mae MH Advantage™ and Freddie Mac CHOICEHome®.
  • Energy efficiency: CrossMod homes are built using the latest technology and energy-efficient materials, resulting in lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint.
  • Durability: CrossMod homes are built to withstand harsh weather conditions and are designed to last for many years. They are also less susceptible to damage from pests and other environmental hazards.
  • Affordability: CrossMod homes are more affordable than traditional site-built homes, making them an attractive option for first-time homebuyers and those looking to downsize.
  • Location flexibility: CrossMod homes can be placed on a variety of different lots, including urban, suburban, and rural settings. This gives homeowners more options when it comes to choosing a location for their home.

CrossMod homes are a cost-effective and long-lasting option for first-time home buyers and those looking to downsize. With exterior features that resemble traditional site-built homes, they can be placed in almost any community, including those that have had limited factory-built housing in the past. By offering the opportunity to build equity and wealth, they provide an accessible path to homeownership.

CrossMod homes are classified as real property, affixed to permanent foundations, and have a higher resale value than other types of manufactured homes. They offer cost savings compared to traditional homes, making them an attractive option for homebuyers. CrossMod homes provide manufacturers with a chance to enter new markets and help more Americans achieve homeownership. They are customizable, affordable, and an excellent choice for anyone in the market for a new home.
