The Impact of Severe Weather on Manufactured Housing

There are many “fun” parts of choosing to build a home with Champion® Homes. There’s seeing all the great homes we post on Facebook and Instagram. There’s the act of browsing the site to find your dream home near where you plan to build. There’s the conversations you’ll have with your local retailer about details such as the number of bedrooms and floorplan. There’s even the process of actually setting your home, which many people find intriguing.

Other parts of choosing Champion for your new home take on a much more serious note. One of those? Making sure your Champion Home can withstand high winds. Knowing whether or not your modern manufactured or modular home can withstand extreme weather conditions is very important! That’s why we’ve gone through the trouble of looking into the matter, so you don’t have to. Manufactured homes are built to establish a structural load path using design forces equivalent to site-built housing codes. Interested? Keep reading!

First things first, let’s make sure you have the right kind of home in mind when you hear “manufactured.” The truth is, today’s prefab homes still suffer from the stigma of “mobile homes” and “trailers.” But what many may not know is that on June 15, 1976, the U.S. Congress passed legislation to establish a federal building code for mobile homes. We talk more about the strict codes and regulations to which our homes are built in our “What Is a Manufactured Home?” blog, which you can read HERE. Simply put: A “mobile home” and a “manufactured home” are not one-in-the-same. According to ManufacturedHomes.com, there have been zero mobiles built in over four decades!

NOTE: Read the blog ‘Not Your Trailer Home Anymore: Meet the New Prefab Homes of Today’ HERE

Our factory-built homes are compliant with the strict construction and safety standards of the Federal HUD code, and when completed to Champion standards can be virtually indistinguishable from the site-built alternative. In many ways, thanks to our stringent quality control procedures and inspection requirements, our homes can be a better purchase than site-built homes. You can read more about our Quality Control practices in the blog HERE

Federal construction codes require our manufactured homes to be built using high-quality, standardized building materials… the same materials used in conventional homes. Also, modern Champion manufactured and modular homes comply with the most up-to-date construction requirements for wind safety, snow loads, and regional seismic loading. According to The Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, the damage sustained by manufactured homes during high winds typically comes from adjacent structures and not from failed components in the home itself.

And we can’t forget important details like tie-downs. Tie-downs are systems of heavy-duty metal hardware and anchors designed to stabilize manufactured homes during high winds. View a photo below.

So, what does it all mean?

If a factory-built home is set up right and tied down properly, you might be surprised at how well it performs in extreme weather and high winds. Any home, whether site-built or factory-built, can be damaged from hurricanes and tornadoes, but when you’re looking to compare? Champion Homes stands strong. Ready to build your dream home? Champion Homes: Offsite Construction is the Perfect Solution for Building Homes in Texas

We had the honor of being featured on Redfin’s Blog, where you can find some of the best homeownership tips and tricks. In this particular blog focused on building, buying and owning a home in Texas, you can learn some great insights.

Tips for Building Your Dream Home in Texas

“Offsite construction is an ideal solution for building homes in Texas,” states home builders Champion® Homes. “Constructing houses in a controlled factory environment shields materials and labor from extreme weather conditions. Select materials suitable for the region, such as engineered wood siding, to withstand Texas’ harsh heat and sunlight.”

Champion Home Builders
The TE3264R – available in Texas!

Here are some additional benefits of building homes through offsite construction, particularly in Texas:

  • Faster construction time: Offsite construction allows for faster completion times as the building process is not subject to weather delays or other on-site complications. This is particularly important in regions like Texas where weather conditions can be unpredictable and extreme.
  • Improved quality control: Building homes in a controlled factory environment allows for better quality control as the construction process is standardized and closely monitored. This reduces the likelihood of errors or defects in the final product.
  • Sustainability: Many offsite construction methods incorporate sustainable practices, such as the use of recycled materials and energy-efficient building techniques. This can result in a more environmentally friendly final product.

If you’re considering buying a home in Texas, it’s worth exploring the benefits of choosing a manufactured or modular home. Here are some reasons why:

  • More space for your money: As the saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. By choosing a factory-built home, you can take advantage of the lower cost-per-square-foot and get more space for your money. This is especially true if you have a lot of land and want a larger home to accommodate your lifestyle.
  • Design options: Don’t be fooled into thinking that factory-built homes are cookie-cutter designs with no room for personalization. In fact, many of our manufacturing facilities and retailers offer a variety of floor plans and design options to suit your needs and style preferences. You can choose from a range of finishes, fixtures, and features to make your home truly your own. Click here to personalize your own Texas home with a price estimate!
  • Quality construction: One of the biggest misconceptions about factory-built homes is that they are of lower quality than site-built homes. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, many manufacturers use advanced construction methods and materials to ensure that their homes are durable, energy-efficient, and built to last.

Overall, choosing a manufactured or modular home in Texas can be a smart choice for those who want more space, design flexibility, quality construction, and faster move-in times. Ready to find the perfect home for you, near you? Click here to reach out to an independent retailer!

Interior Color Trends to Consider

Stay in-the-know with these updated color trends for a chic interior!

Ready to give your new home some pizazz or wanting to spruce up your existing home with something new? Color is the perfect way to say a lot without necessarily doing a lot. Are you wondering which colors are particularly standing out these days? This blog will provide the perfect colorful inspiration when choosing colors to use throughout your home interior. Let’s get into it!

Trend #1: MAKE IT POP

For the bold players out there, you’ll be glad to hear that poppy tones of magenta, orange and red are taking the front stage! The key to pulling this color trend off is through the art of placement. Have an overall warm-toned kitchen? Find a warm-toned bright orange piece of furniture you’d like to stand out! The Pika SCC643 (pictured above) does a great job using this trend.

You can also choose the opposite route and let the bold color be your base, accenting with neutral tones of white, silver, dark wood tones or even another bold color! Orange and red can definitely work together with the right pieces and inspiration. With these tips, you can decorate your manufactured our modular home to feel juuuuust right every time you walk in!

We love the pops of subtle orange throughout the Cypress! Read more on this model here

Trend #2: GREEN IS THE NEW NEUTRAL

The influence nature has on interior design will always be timeless, and green, a color synonymous with nature and the beauty of the natural world, remains one of the most popular colors to use in Interior Design in 2023 and completes an ever-popular Biophilic Design Trend. The Innovation 1668H (pictured above) is a model that implements this trend with beauty! With Champion Homes, you don’t have to worry about not being able to stay on trend in a prefab home. We’ve got the options you need!

According to our Interior Design Manager Tammie D., greens with a blue base like our Rocky River are impactful and pair well with soft tones of clay, white, and grey while balancing out with a lighter flooring selection to complete a calming stage for the homeowner.  If your style is more modern, consider using green as an accent to lighter wood tones and black. More into Farmhouse styling? Pair green with warm wood tones, white, and accents of black.

Check out the backsplash tile in the Paris! Oui oui!!

NOTE: Need to figure out which design style speaks to you most? Read the blog!

Trend #3: MUTED STATEMENTS STILL SPEAK

This is the trend that never really goes out of style. People love calm tones because of their adaptability! You can have basically any design style and still find a way to work neutrals into your interior design and décor. This trend also has many options: browns, beiges, “greige,” ivories and more! With this trend, you can really show that “muted” does NOT have to mean “boring.”

This trend also pairs really well with another trend in this blog: greenery! If you’re taking the calm and muted route, pair the color scheme with some plants and flowers as the perfect accent. Trust us, the light tan cabinets will pop even more with a bird’s nest fern sitting on the counter! We absolutely love the Transitions-20727 (pictured below) for its take on this trend.

Trend #4: Dramatic Dark Accents

The Mammoth Park! Yep, it’s worth the wow!

If you want your home to look like a delicious chocolate bar tastes, you’re likely into dark tones and accents. Darker tones are a great way to add character and mood to any space. They also help to bring warmth to a home.

You can also take this route paired with another trend on this list…yep, you guessed it: nature-inspired! Think terracotta browns, eucalyptus greens and deep tans. Another bold idea when you’re going with dark tones? Paint the ceiling! It might sound crazy, but it can really work! Overall, if done correctly, a dark toned interior can be really calming.

Who’s ready to get colorful? Whichever color route you take, remember to make it your own! Home décor is never fully finished, so if you make a decision you don’t like, you are always free to tweak as you see fit. Ready to find the Champion home for you?
